threefour years since Brendan’s arrival
- a screencap for every month
Reblogging myself as it’s now four years since Brendan’s arrival in Hollyoaks, back in 2010
Thank you to itsstendanbaby for letting me know 3 October 2012 had disappeared from DM. I’ve reuploaded it. It’s a good one so worth a rewatch! If you spot any others that have disappeared let me know.
Sometimes I’d pretend to be asleep. I just close my eyes, do my eight times table.
Two times eight - sixteen, three times eight - twenty-four, four times eight - thirty-two.
I was top dog at my eight times table. I got a g o l d s t a r. Got me a gold star.
The closest episode I could get to a summer holiday one! Brendan even wears his blue summer shirt! Although like most of Brendan’s life, it’s not the happy summer day it could be. Brendan’s made a promise to join Ste and the kids, with estranged son Declan, to a trip to Disneyworld Florida. But he’s torn between his heart and his fears and can’t go through with it. The scene in the car is such a powerful moment - it always gets to me seeing Brendan’s struggle.
With Emmett’s new role in Suspects I thought I’d pick an episode where Brendan was a suspect (not hard to find one!). In this episode Brendan is the prime suspect for Rae’s murder and is refused bail as Silas walks free.
Really funny episode as Brendan is forced to meet his fake girlfriend Mitzeee’s mum for lunch. Trish is an even worse cook than Brendan! Cheryl shows up and adds an extra element of disaster to the meal. This is a really fun watch.
As today, for some parts of England, has been the hottest day of the year so far I thought I’d go for our first glimpse of Brendan in vaguely summery attire instead of the usual suits and leather jacket. It’s a bit of a strange episode (Brendan wants to cook a meal for Cheryl to make something up to her [they fell out so many times - I think this was over her missing out on the Royal Wedding…] and who does he go to for help? Ste [and Noah]). It’s funny in parts, particularly seeing Brendan struggling to be civil and friendly, despite his jealousy and general loathing of Noah, but the highlight of the episode is the scene with Cheryl where he admits he’s still not comfortable and barely able to admit to being gay. I like that Hollyoaks always continued to keep the idea that Brendan cannot cook throughout his time on the show too (except his creme brulee of course).
Two reasons for picking this episode. One, it features a man coming back from the dead (see where I’m going with this considering In The Flesh airs on Sunday?) aka Warren “Foxy” Fox and secondly it is probably one of THE best Brendan episodes ever. It features all of his weird and wonderful quirks (obsessive eating, cocktail loving etc) as well as some intense flirting (although poor India doesn’t get much of this). It has to go down as the most disastrous double date ever. I think it’s impossible to watch this and not fall in love with Brendan all over again.
Bit of a classic. Brendan is back in town after falling out with Cheryl and realising Ste has “moved on” with Noah (yeah right). Warren is characteristically pissed at his return and looks to get revenge after Brendan stole his money. Warren threatens to expose his secret and hurt his ‘precious little Steven’. Brendan does something no one saw coming…
I’ve mainly chosen this episode to continue to continue today’s trend of topless Emmett, but for its short duration it’s a moving episode. After being beaten in prison, Brendan looks at photos of his sons and cries.
Two episodes in one. Cockney gangster Danny Houston shows what he’s truly capable of when he reveals to Brendan that he was responsible for the death of Brendan’s ex-lover. Amazing scene in the Relish diner between Danny and Brendan. Later on Danny proves he means his threats when he makes it clear he knows Brendan’s weakness. Danny (RIP!) was a great little villain!
In the aftermath of Lynsey’s funeral (you know the one, where Brendan and Lynsey’s brother got down and dirty on the murder couch) emotions and tensions are running high. Eoghan continues on his bitter whinging even after a night in Brendan’s lair(!) and Cheryl finds out the truth leading to a great scene where Brendan snaps at her and later reluctantly agrees to attend family counselling. Ste becomes Brendan’s official cheerleader and things are on the right and sizzling track between them until damn it - yep you’ve guessed it - Doug arrives and ruins the fun!
"I used to wanna be superman…" begins Brendan’s opening monologue to Hollyoaks Later and with the news this week of Emmett appearing in comic book movie Guardians of the Galaxy I thought it was an appropriate choice. This first episode of Hollyoaks Later kicks off a cinematic looking series where Brendan’s darkness and the root of his trauma is fully revealed. Worth a rewatch alone if only for the brilliant opening sequence (and the black humour of his Stupid Cupid dance).
This is a great episode that I’d almost forgotten about. Brendan’s under pressure with Pete’s arrival, terrified he’s going to spill his secrets. He also has Rae on his back who threats to expose his sexuality to Warren if he doesn’t leave Ste alone. It all gets a bit much when everyone surrounds him in the club and after warning Ste that Pete’s not to be trusted (and some classic face touching) he comes up with a plan to get rid of Rae.
This episode features one of my favourite Emmett performances where Brendan, distraught at losing Lynsey, unleashes a tirade against Joel and smashes up the club. Later him and Walker try and track down Samson, with Brendan believing him to be the one who murdered Lynsey. There are some lovely but sad Brendan and Cheryl scenes too.
